About Dhamma Suvatthi
This amazing 9-acre meditation centre is situated across the road from the Jetavana Archaeological Park,
next to a government rest house, and down the road from several monasteries. As the exact boundaries of the original
Vihara are unknown, it is quite likely that Dhamma Suvatthi is located on a section of the original grounds of
the Vihara. As it is the place where the Buddha spent more time than anywhere else (24 rain retreats), Dhamma
practitioners are encouraged to meditate here as much as possible, taking advantage of the pure and vibrant
Dhamma atmosphere.
Ten-day courses are held twice a month for about 50 students, and old students of S.N. Goenka are welcome to come
for shorter self-courses at this simple, yet well-built meditation centre.
Sravasti (Sahet Mahet) itself is a sort of village, awakening slowly into its past eminence. For those who
like to meditate far from human habitat this is certainly one such premium place.
